Create a website for a non-profit to engage more people to their cause.
I was hired by AVAQ (Association of Asbestos Victims in Quebec) to help them gain more support for their cause towards getting indemnisation for asbestos victims.

Problem statement
AVAQ gains little to no engagement rates for their cause because they rely on reaching out to people through Facebook and mailing brochures to attract support.

We need to boost engagement by finding a space that makes it easier to reach the target audience.

Solution

Create a website to allow potential supporters to find them through SEO.

Analysis

Research

  • I researched and analyzed what other competitors did (Red Cross, Cancer Foundation, etc.)
  • I interviewed members of the foundation to get a better idea of their mission and the reason they do things

Key Findings

  • Most website have CTA’s (Call to action) directing towards helping their cause (donating, sharing news, etc.)
  • Websites ask for emails or try to get you to fill a form
  • The members of the foundation had limited abilities when it came to using technology, thus it was important that I created the website on a platform they could easily pickup and modify on.

Design process

Ideating and brainstorming

  • I began creating charts about the target audience, the values and mission of the non-profit to have as guide throughout the design process.

Hirarchy and order

  • Leveraging the brochure previously distributed by the non-profit, I crafted a website hierarchy that faithfully reflects its content.
  • On the left is the flowchart I created, and on the right, the brochure that inspired it.

Iteration process

Trial and failure

  • After validating the base hierarchy with the client, I began iterating wireframes for the website.
  • My goal was to produce a design that would represent effectively the values of the AVAQ and allow potential backers to learn everything they need to know about the non-profit.
